About clove3d

clove3d is a small, independent collection of calculators for people who build and run CNC machines and 3D printers. The goal is narrow and deliberate: give a correct answer in a second, work on the shop floor, and never get in your way.

What it does

Three focused tools, each doing one job well:

• Steps per mm, motor calibration for leadscrews, belts and rack & pinion, with ready-to-paste GRBL and Marlin lines.
• Feeds & speeds, spindle RPM and feed rate from surface speed, diameter and chip load, in metric or imperial.
• Belt tension, tension a GT2 / GT3 belt by ear using the vibration (pluck) method.

How the numbers are worked out

Every result comes from standard, published engineering relationships, and each tool shows the formula and the values plugged into it, nothing is a black box. The math runs in your browser, so it’s instant and works with no connection once the page has loaded. These are reference tools, though, not a substitute for judgement: always confirm a result on your own machine before you cut. Spot a mistake? Tell us, accuracy is the whole point.
